About My Work in Florida

Florida is a state of enormous variety — in geography, culture, and the kinds of lives people are living. From the fast-moving professional world of Miami and Tampa to the military communities of Jacksonville and Pensacola, the retirement transitions of Southwest Florida, and the university towns of Tallahassee and Gainesville, the experiences of Florida adults are as diverse as the state itself. I see clients anywhere in Florida — Miami-Dade and Broward, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Jacksonville, the Gulf Coast, the Panhandle, and the smaller communities where options are thin.

Florida’s university campuses — UF, FSU, UCF, University of Miami, USF, and many others — bring a large population of students into environments that are academically demanding and often far from home. For students navigating ADHD, anxiety, or the particular pressure of competitive programs, consistent individual therapy can make a real difference that campus counseling centers, with their limited availability and session caps, often aren’t set up to provide.

Florida also has a significant military and veteran population, particularly in the Jacksonville, Pensacola, and Tampa Bay areas. I work with veterans and active-duty service members navigating PTSD, reintegration, and the particular challenges that military life creates for mental health — including the very real ways it intersects with substance use, ADHD, and family stress.

For clients from Florida’s significant evangelical and Catholic communities who are navigating questions about faith, religious identity, or the aftermath of harmful religious experiences, this is a space where those conversations are taken seriously. Southern religious culture doesn’t stop at the Georgia line, and the particular mix of faith tradition and Southern heritage that shapes much of North and Central Florida is something I understand from years of clinical experience.

About Me

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with 21 years of experience, licensed in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Vermont, and New Hampshire, and practicing in Ohio and Minnesota through the Counseling Compact. I'm board certified in telemental health (BC-TMH), certified as an ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in Georgia — which means part of my work is training and overseeing other therapists.

What I care about more than any of that is whether you feel safe enough to be honest, and whether the work is actually useful to you.

I'm trained in a range of approaches — cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and EMDR. I think of those as tools rather than a method I run people through. Which ones we use depends on you and what you're working on. Some people want structure and something to practice between sessions. Others need to think out loud with someone who knows what to listen for. Often it's both, at different points.

What stays constant is that we go at your pace, you decide what we work on, and nothing happens because it was next in a sequence.
